mista morst...kinda off the beaten path...but u seem to know ur shizz about CVB related info. i went to SF a few times to see a band called "the Ophelias". David Immergluck played lead for them, and i came to know CVB through his wanderings to CVB, and beyond. The Ophelias were friggin' great to see live, and like so many bands before, it was never captured in the studio like it was live, so i guess it went nowhere. the lead singer had a very Ray Davies like voice, and i've never found out any info as to where he ended up. i thought he was as good a singer as Immy was a guitarist (which puts his butt way up on my list as a vocalist). His name was Leslie Medford. i have done web searches, come up with an adress to write to, and the mail came back as non existing adress. just wondering if he ever recorded again, solo, new band, whatever? any info appreciated if ya know of some. keep posting those CVB w/Immy shows too. can't tell ya how much i enjoy 'em.

The Ophelias were indeed one hell of a band, I had the pleasure of seeing them many times; I was their soundman for maybe a year of their existence - towards the end of the band. I remember we opened for the Pixies once and they borrowed our equipment as theirs had been stolen....Immergluck was (and is) a complete riff machine; I remember him showing me endless Kinks riffs during lulls at rehearsals. I couldn't stump him, he knew all of it. First lead guitarist Sam "Mr Rabbit" Babbitt (who I think played the acoustic 12-string on that selfsame track) left the Oafs for the Catheads, who put out two fine albums of their own before breaking up. (They reunited January 2006 for two shows, one public and one private. You can see a few vids from the show on youtube.) I only worked for them during Immergluck's tenure. They should have been much, much bigger. Looks like whoever was looking for Leslie hereabouts has gotten in touch, Hi from Bob F, Leslie, if you read this....

No. That was me. It was painful. Something like seven minutes of a very repetetive riff. Leslie was on recorder,harmonica,trumpet,kilt,etc........

Nope. That was me and it wasn't easy. Nothing was easy in that band. It was hard work and it was a real learning experience for a narrow minded young fuck head fresh off the boat from Boston.

Hello!
I just googled my name, which I do about once a year, and your posting came up. I don't know anything about this porthole, but I joined so I you could read this. You may write to me a lmedfordATinfostationscom, thanks for the kind words about the ophelias. Yes we DID rock, and haven't yet gotten our due-dee-due. I hope to hear from you...spread the word.

i wa the original drummer with the ophelias. ruben chandler. i think three of the tracks on the first lp feature me. all the arrangements on the following lp's are my drum patterns. leslie lives near ft. bragg, ca and sells billboard space for a living. he has been a single parent raising a daughter with the same attention to detail that provided grueling rehearsal schedules for the ophelias in the mid 80s.there are no subsequent releases from him though he did a couple of sessions in 96 97. sam, the origianl guitarist married a straight chick who wouldn't let him hang out with us. he showed back up in 97, played with the androgynauts, basically the same line up as the catheads, which we started and recorded , and released product before the ophelias as we were bored with the pace of the band.

i left to play with the hollowmen, then will shatter, dee dee ramone, and johnny thunders, bomb and a host of others. after touring australia, new zealand, and japan i moved to bangkok, thailand for tax reasons and plentiful cheap dope. johnny and dee dee both visited me there.

i returned to the bay area in 96 and played with the slow poisoners. i live in the la area now. i had a band called the amigroes with steve dior (late new york dolls and l.a. guns) on guitar and barbara ramone (dee dee's widow) on bass. i am now doing sound track work in hollywood with the likes of rat scabies. i am looking at an option with barry jones (johnny thunders guitarist...check you tube for great vids) and tex from the hangmen.

i have rehearsal tapes and recording sessions available for anyone that wants them that are far superior to anything ever released.

lates,

r

How are you doing,Rueben? Sam here. I am currently domiciled on the east coast. Living by the seashore in a fishly little drinking village called Manomet, which is in Plymouth,Mass. I own a modified two-storey cottage on WhiteHorse(no kidding)Beach (My dope days are long over but I hope I still have some music left in me). My little eight track studio is waiting.
I'm a Union Carpenter right now. At the age of 45, I can almost smell 65, and the Union benefits package just save my ass from a miserable retirement. It looks like I'm actually going to grow old.
I am trying to get some musicians together to join the WhiteHorse Beachboys but the locals can't get past the fact that they're actually talking to someone who actually moved all the way to California and stayed there for 20 years.
Massachusetts is why people moved to California in the first place and it's nice to now that some things never change(or improve).

And you?

It looks like I'm actually going to grow old.
